Mental Health Professionals

At the Kingston Family Health Team we have several kinds of mental health professional, each of whom have a role in your mental health care.

Family Physician

A medical doctor who orchestrates your medical care and who can prescribe medications for mental health.  Several of the family physicians in our Team also provide Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), a type of talk therapy.  Referrals to the other mental health professionals on our Team must come from a KFHT family physician, nurse practitioner or other Team professional.  Your family physician can also refer you to mental health professionals outside the Team.

Nurse Practitioner

An advanced practice registered nurse who is here to monitor health and provide some brief counselling.

Social Worker

Our social workers have advanced degrees (MSW) in social work and provide a range of services that include individual counselling for mental health as well as help managing practicalities of life (e.g., money management, relationship challenges, return to work planning & problem solving) that can become difficult to manage in the face of mental health challenges.
