Being physically active every day is enjoyable and safe for most people. Physical activity has many health benefits including: improving your fitness and strength, decreasing stress and depression, lowering risk of chronic disease and helping to maintain your weight.
Canadian Physical Activity Guidelines recommend the following amount of physical activity:
Amount of Physical Activity Needed
|Toddlers & Preschoolers (1-4 years)||At least 180 minutes per day|
|Children & Youth (5-17 years)||At least 60 minutes per day|
|Adults (18-64 years)||At least 150 minutes per week|
|Older Adults (65 years and older)||At least 150 minutes per week|
